La Verga is a small amphitheatrical luxury resort located on the southwestern coast of Gran Canaria, not far from Puerto Rico. It was built on the steep volcanic slopes of the island. La Verga has gorgeous artificial beach with fine white sand, brought from the Sahara Desert. The resort offers an idyllic and tranquil atmosphere, suitable for travelers of all ages. It is well known for its beautiful gardens, situated between luxury hotels. They offer a huge variety of tropical plants.
The paths winding among flowers, palm trees and exotic shrubs are an excellent place to walk. The numerous swimming pools complement the perfect holiday atmosphere of La Verga.
The promenade of Anfi Beach itself is charming, doted with beautiful coconut palms and bright flowers. They combine exotic tropical atmosphere with Mediterranean charm, and this is the most typical feature of the Canary Islands.
Here you will find great cafes and restaurants where tourists sit to enjoy the great seafood or to get a cold drink after the beach. The closest tropical paradise to Europe offers numerous opportunities for sport under the open sky, including several tennis courts, located next on the Atlantic coast.
Outside the resort town, however, you will fall into a different world of semi-arid landscapes, barren rocks and scarce vegetation.
Here you can see some rare species of bushes and cacti that survive with minimal rainfall under the tropical sun.
The desert landscape should not mislead you. The entire island is rich in endemic plant and animal species, but the greatest variety you will find in coastal waters. You can get a real idea only if you’re a fan of diving, or simply if you walk with a glass bottom boat.
The constant warm and cloudless weather makes La Verga year-round tourist destination. For example, it offers excellent conditions for tourism during the summer season. In June, July, August and September most of the Mediterranean basin usually suffers of unbearable heats.
Too high temperatures, however, are not typical of this place. Thanks to the refreshing Atlantic waters, even during the hottest days of the year the temperature in La Verga does not exceed 28 – 29°C.
It cannot be denied, however, that winter is more attractive period to visit the island, and the streets of the resort town are a bit more cheerful.
