Many people ask: “Where is the warmest place in Europe?” Some of them ask, because they just want to know. Other people ask because they plan to spend their holyday abroad and need to have some information about the climate. There are few places in Europe that pretend to be the warmest.
Crete. The Greek island of Crete is the southern most part of Greece. It has hot subtropical climate. Situated among the
warm Mediterranean, this island is real paradise for the tourists. If you plan to visit this place, you have to know that the beach season is from the beginning of April to the end of November. Of course it would be risky to visit the island in the first days of April or in the last days of November, because the weather is changeable and some days can be cool. December, January, February and March are spring like. They can be very wet with significant precipitation. The winter temperatures are around 17 °C in January, February and March and 18 °C in December. Of course, some days are warm, other are cool. Sometimes the temperatures can reach 20 – 25 °C or can drop to 9 °C. The summer is hot, long an d dry. Absolutely sure – this is one of the hottest places in Europe.
Cyprus. The second place that pretend to be the hottest in Europe is the island of Cyprus. Geographical, this island is part of Asia, but Cyprus is ever been part of Europe. It is mem ber of the European Union. And this is real sunny paradise. The coldest month is January in Paphos and Larnaka the daily temperatures are around 17 °C. This is warm spring like weather. Just imagine – when in the northern parts of Europe the temperatures are under the zero, in Cyprus you are dressed only by t-shirt and jeans jacket. In comparison with Crete here the temperatures are even higher. You can swim in the sea from April to November, but by contrast with Crete, here has some days in March and December that are enough sunny and warm for sun bathing and swimming. The summer in Cyprus begins few days earlier and finish few days latter.![]()
Maybe the most interesting is the first place. Where is the hottest place in Europe? The answer is Andalusia. Andalusia enjoys the warmest weather in all Europe. The summer is incredible hot and unbearable. This area feels the influence of the tropical air masses that involve here freely. The summer temperatures easy can reach 40 °C. The summer conditions, lasts from early spring to late autumn (from March to November). During the winter months from December to February the daily temperatures are usually around 18 °C. Some days are
cooler (14 – 15 °C), but other are very warm – more than 20 °C. Interesting fact is that A ndalusia is the only place in Europe where you can see people to make sun baths in January. The sea water of course is too cool for swimming, but the weather is very nice. The reason for this warm weather in Andalusia is that Sierra Nevada stops the cool air masses that coming from north and the Mediterranean Sea allow to the hot masses to involve here from south. As a whole the climate in Andalusia is subtropical hot with strong tropical influence. And yet don’t forget that the climate is subtropical and has short winter. If you travel to Andalusia in the winter will be better to bring warm clothes in the luggage. Maybe the winter is the warmest in Europe but all the same is winter.
