Most of the Solomon Islands are of volcanic origin, and therefore, they are covered with rich volcanic soil.

The combination between rich soil and abundant rainfalls is the reason why the islands are well known for their lush and difficult to pass through tropical jungles.

In the 20th century, the process of deforestation affected more than 30% of the country’s area.

Despite this fact, today most of the territory of the islands is still covered with lush and varied vegetation.

The jungle is home to more than 5,000 species of tropical plants (trees, shrubs, flowers), and only the number of local species of orchids is about 230!

Solomon Islands falls within the subequatorial climate zone, which means 12 months of hot and humid weather throughout the year.

The average daytime temperature is about 30 – 31 °C from January till December.

Night temperatures are always about 22 – 23 °C.

Rainfalls are intense but when it rains it is usually for about 30 minutes or an hour so you could go to the beach practically every day.

7. Warm ocean water

Ocean waters around the islands are warm all year round.

The average temperature is between 26 and 30 °C.

This is a really good news for you if you are into swimming, diving and snorkeling but if you are too sensitive to cold at the same time.

One of the advantages to visit the Solomon Islands is the chance to walk into the tropical rainforest without the risk of meeting some large predator or other dangerous animal.

The only place to be a bit more careful is the ocean because there are some species of sharks and other dangerous sea creatures.

9. Locals speak English

You will be able to easily communicate with the local people because the official language of the islands is English.

This is an important part of the adventure because you will be able get in touch with the culture and to make new friendships here.

The cuisine of the Solomon Islands has evolved over the centuries.

It is an amazing mix between the culinary traditions of the European and Asian settlers.

On the one hand, Europeans brought many new plants and animals, and on the other hand, Asians brought a number of specific southern Asian spices.
