Las Puntas is a small coastal village situated in the north of the island of El Hierro, Canary Islands.
It is located in the municipality of Frontera and has a population of less than 300 people.
The settlement is comfortably nestled between the vertical slopes of the crater and rough waters of the Atlantic.
Las Puntas is famous for its spectacular coastline.
It is strongly indented, dominated by black and rugged volcanic rocks.
Perpendicular to the ocean, the coastal cliffs confront the tireless and powerful ocean waves.
Weather
If you have already decided to spend your next holidays in Las Puntas, do not worry about the weather – it is very pleasant throughout the year.
Without cold days in winter or hot days in summer, the coastal village enjoys temperatures in the range of 20 to 26°C.
The fresh ocean breeze brings nice coolness even during the hottest summer days.
The seawater temperature along the coast is constantly between 19 and 23°C, but that’s not very important – because of the large ocean waves, rocky shores and strong ocean currents Las Puntas is quite dangerous place for swimming and bathing into the sea.
Things to Do in Las Puntas
The sea in Las Puntas, in the windward side of the island, is usually rough, and the waves are often quite large.
Because of the sound of breaking waves, the place is really relaxing and good for getting rid of the daily stress.
On the rare occasions when the sea surface is calm, the coast offers excellent conditions for kayaking.
North of the village you will find the Nature Reserve Roques de Salmor.
This is the main natural attraction in this part of the island.
Do not miss also the water park Cascadas del Mar.
If you’re a water lover, this place will offer you great opportunities to spend your free time.
One of the main attractions of Las Puntas, especially for those loving heights, is the Mirador de la Peña – a charming restaurant with a breathtaking panoramic terrace.
Situated very high above the village, this worth-visiting place is one of the works of the brilliant Spanish architect and artist Cesar Manrique, the designer of the homonymous marine park in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
