The Rock of Aphrodite is one of the biggest attractions on the island of Cyprus.
It is located about half an hour drive southwest from the center of the historic town of Paphos, which is under the auspices of UNESCO because of its unique cultural heritage.
The beige limestone rock is located on the beach.
It rises a few meters above sea level.
Nice beaches stretch on both sides of the rock.
They are covered with light brown gravel and small oval pebbles.
In nice weather the water is very calm and clear, but in windy days, when there are higher waves, sea water crashes right into the rock forming thick and white sea foam.
According to the legend, it was here where Aphrodite, the Goddess of beauty and love, was born.
She is also known under the name Kyprida (the name comes from the island of Cyprus).
This place is a famous tourist attraction, and although it’s a bit remote from the city center of Paphos, there are numerous hotels as well as a golf course in the area.
Accessibility is good.
Not far from the Rock of Aphrodite is the main road from Paphos to Limassol and the international airport is located less than 15 km from here.
