A section of the roof at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta, Indonesia, partially collapsed on April 6, 2026, after days of intense rainfall.
According to reports, the incident took place at Terminal 3, one of the airport’s main international terminals.
Heavy rain had been falling for several days, leading to water accumulation and leaks in the ceiling structure. Eventually, part of the roof gave way, sending a large amount of water pouring into the departure lounge.
Videos shared online show water first dripping through the ceiling before panels suddenly collapsed, creating what witnesses described as a “waterfall” inside the terminal.
Passengers in the area quickly moved away as debris fell and water flooded parts of the lounge.
Despite the dramatic scenes, no serious injuries were reported. Airport officials said the incident lasted only a few minutes and was quickly brought under control. Staff cleaned the affected area and restricted access to ensure safety.
The heavy rain also disrupted flight operations. Several flights were delayed or diverted due to the weather conditions and the temporary closure of part of the terminal.
Authorities later stated that the rest of the airport infrastructure, including runways and aircraft operations, remained fully functional.
The incident has raised concerns about building maintenance and the impact of extreme weather on infrastructure in the region.
